Course Introduction

The Diploma in Industrial Hygiene is designed to develop professional knowledge and practical competencies in occupational health hazard recognition, workplace exposure assessment, industrial hygiene monitoring, exposure control, occupational disease prevention, and workplace health management.

The course focuses on developing competent industrial hygiene and occupational health professionals who can identify workplace health hazards, evaluate occupational exposures, conduct workplace monitoring, recommend effective exposure control measures, and support the implementation of occupational health and safety management systems.

Participants will learn how to identify physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards; conduct occupational exposure assessments; understand air sampling strategies; evaluate workplace noise and heat stress; assess ventilation systems; interpret exposure monitoring results; and develop appropriate industrial hygiene control measures.

The course also covers occupational toxicology, chemical exposure pathways, occupational exposure limits, personal and area monitoring, biological monitoring, respiratory protection, local exhaust ventilation, indoor air quality, ergonomics, occupational health surveillance, and prevention of work-related illnesses.

With particular emphasis on Bangladesh's industrial, commercial, RMG, textile, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and institutional environments, participants will gain practical knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety requirements, Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006 (as amended), Bangladesh Labour Rules, 2015 (as amended), and relevant international occupational hygiene practices.

The course will also introduce relevant international standards and frameworks, including ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, ILO occupational health principles, NIOSH exposure assessment practices, and relevant occupational exposure guidelines.

Through practical exercises, workplace exposure assessment, industrial hygiene monitoring demonstrations, chemical hazard evaluation, noise assessment, heat stress evaluation, ventilation inspection, case studies, assignments, and occupational health risk assessment activities, participants will develop the skills required to prevent occupational illnesses, reduce hazardous workplace exposures, improve workplace health conditions, and strengthen organizational occupational health management systems.
